Babar and Queen Celeste

One of my 2010 goals is to plan a Safari trip to Africa. While there I fully intend to feed a baby elephant and bring back a picture just like this. I love that little Babar is totally channeling André Leon Tally with his Louis Vuitton cape. And love even more that Queen Celeste, Kiera Knightley, paints an unexpected take on Safari. Another Spring trend, but not one I am sure I can embrace -- never been much for straw hats, camo and binoculars. Practical or not, I’d probably go for more of an earthy, femme bohemian meets wildlife kind of wardrobe. Well, at least for my picture. (Vogue 07)

Ba Da Bling

From boots to ba da bling! Oh mon dieu, could you die? Check out these vintage bracelets from Decades. Dramatic, unique, perfectly current while not. If you collect jewelry, these are sure to impress. And if you collect fashion, Decades is sure to make you fall out on the floor. Flat out, heart racing, take all my money, on the floor. Off With Your Heads

As most of you know, with trends that go en masse, I stay the nonconformist path. So when JCrew started selling Hunter boots this past Fall, I ran the other direction. And thanks to such mass production and consumption, my feet were drenched yesterday in a preview of what is sure to be the coming of April monsoons. Well I've decided I won't be a victim; my feet need shelter too. But under some very strict conditions: 1. I am buying Hunters, to be called and spoken of by no other name. Not wellies, barnboots rainboots or any other brand name butchery. And, 2. I am buying my Hunters in either green or navy. Not purple, pink, yellow or god save the queen, prints. That one really kills me. This is a boot that was worn and popularized by Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington of the 19th Century. British aristocracy people! Cheetah print "wellies" does not emulate the fashion of royalty. Off with your heads. (Marie Claire 07)

Sir, Yes Sir

There’s no doubt Monday’s are a total drag. But not if you know how to show em’ who’s in charge. What better way to do so than in Spring’s military inspired look. If you’ve been paying attention to the pages of March pubs, you’ve found yourself surrounded by this trend’s full on artillery front. And just this weekend on a history outing to one of Virginia’s Civil War battlegrounds, I found myself literally on the front lines of this current influence on fashion. The staple to this uniform is definitely the tailored jacket. Whether long or short, green or khaki, dressed up or down, this piece will definitely make your Monday stand at attention. Speaking of attention, this undeniably amazing trench by Burberry Prorsum has got mine. Sir, yes sir! Suddenly I find myself very interested in U.S. Military spending. (Serge Leblon 10)

Do Not Disturb

One of my biggest weaknesses is sunglasses. I think I own about 12 pairs. Just the other week I added some yummies from Guc' to my ever ridiculous and growing collection. Gucci is definitely one of my go to’s along with Oliver Peoples and Dior. These are Prada’s Butterflies from last Spring’s collection -- they were major. And this picture majorly captures the exact essence of my sunwear love affair. Total attitude. Uber mystery. And as RZoe puts it best, the ultimate do not disturb sign. (Chictopia, March 09)

She's Musetastic

Muses come and go. My current muse is not only the source of recent LC inspiration, she’s also one of my very best friends. Since birth, we’ve shared life’s laughs, tears, special occasions, valleys and accomplishments. And right now I could not be more proud of Catherine Fitzsimmons’ accomplishments -- she’s musetastic. Affectionately “Chatty”, this business lassie launched her own company two years ago and has seen it take off since. Rikshaw Design has gone from a small collection of authentic Indian hand-blocked printed cribbing to multiple collections and accompanying accessories; such as the signature Elephant pillow and too cute to spill on bibs. And most recently, Rikshaw has launched Boho Bliss – a collection of toddler essentials. My personal favorites are the sunhats and bloomers. A++dorable. And all of these treasures once only available online are now showing up in window displays of high end LA and NYC baby boutiques, available to the likes of Harlow Madden! Whether you have tots or not, you can’t help but fall head over heels in love with Rikshaw and its charming bohemian chic vibe. Not to mention Chatty’s wonderfully carefree spirit, sunny, funny disposition and contagious bigger than life smile. I'm so lucky to know and adore her! Speaking of adore, check out Chatty’s must have tunic blouse above. Channel her unique style and make it your own with this Tucker look-a-like available on Piperlime. For a year round look, jeans are perfect. For warmer days, belt it with a Spring mini or blouse it with some oh-so-cropped summer shorts.

Work It Out

September 4th was one of my bestie's birthdays. I promised her a feature in honor of her special day and her special gift. Well, I fell ill. The flowers and cards were so appreciated, you're all too too kind. Truly, it made me feel like I've really arrived. I wonder if Rachel Zoe will get so sick tonight that she has people sending her gifts. Hmmm. But right, this isn't about me, or her, or my make-believe world. This is about my girl and about her new fabulous Mesi clutch.This hand piece was wrapped and ready to be gifted long before Fall fashion was talking about the clutch trend. A fashion-foreshadow if you will. Thanks to an i-spy kinda of eye, the help of fellow bestie co-shoppers and Felix Rey.This designer brings together the 80's, metallics, and embellished art in one little hold-everything. I love the punk meshed metal, the vintage peculiarity of the gold shell and the surprising funk of the leopard grosgrain lining. I also love how you can wear the Mesi with a range of looks. Casual with Friday night jeans, sophisticated with a Holiday tuxedo look and all dressed up with something like this ISSA kimono mini. So there you go birthday girl. Better late than never. Stella My Bella

It was 58 degrees this morning. I'm confused. And convinced I'm being tested. Between September Vogue, the new season of the RZ Project, countless emails from my fab-five fashion sites about Fall must haves, and this pre-season Arctic blast, you'd think the Gods are messing with my code. The code that is I do not walk, talk or buy Fall fashion until the weekend of Labor has officially passed. I've never been able to think about wool while pools and summer sun still beckon. Too itchy. Plus it feels like I'm cheating on summer to wear boots on August 31st. Yes I saw you, tisk tisk. But the main reason I resist is that the longer I wait, the better it is. Like giving up chocolate for Lent. With each day the craving grows and grows, until alas Easter, and oh sweet heaven of yumminess! I digress. So right now I'm pretty much relying on super woman strength to not break bad on leather leggings, velvet jackets, and the 80's revisited. Therefore until next week, seasonless moments like lingerie feel like a safe place for me. And Stella McCartney's new collection is just that - safe, but in a good way and a beau-T-ful way. Not too naughty, not too nice, these pieces have a European romance to them, a soft elegance and yet still command your inner sexy. My favorites are the Amber Chatting* bra and bikini, the Lola Spinning bra and shorts and the Clara Whispering chemise. The latter for some bedroom "je ne sais quoi", the Lola for a steamy night out, and the Amber for a Saturday morning cuddled up in your most favorite throw sipping hot chocolate. How lucky to be a woman and to enjoy such moments of femininity and stripped down beauty. Well done, Stella my Bella. Big kiss.
