Spring Cleaning

A few weeks ago while Spring cleaning, I came upon my old Speedy. Like every New York girl trying to be Carrie Bradshaw circa 1998-2000, I too bought into the Monogram Louis Vuitton trend back then. My first one was a Pouch, which I quickly outgrew, literally, and shipped to my niece for her dress up box. It turns out she wasn't into dressing up, let alone a designer bag perfect for her 5 year old stature and pre-school going. Sigh. Of course she didn't care therefore when took it back and gave it to my best friend who has since made great use of it for loose change and lip gloss. In fact, said best friend is who convinced me today to not let go of my Speedster so easily. Instead of consigning it, we discussed how I might reinvigorate it. Tomorrow my 12 year old Speedy is off to Paris for some personalization inspired by one of Spring's hottest colors - neon citrus. I wonder if my niece will like it.

Speeding Up

I know it's a sign of weakness to shop out of boredom, so -- I guess that makes me weak. But it's also Spring and there's pep in my step. So to compliment my stride, I am feeling out a new Speedy and thinking of speeding up to a 40 monogram. I know, I know. I have said that I don't like anything monogramed. That stance remains; exception being Louis Vuitton bags and money clips.

Head To Hoof

I'm headed to Texas this week for a speaking engagement in Amarillo. I've only been to the lone star state once before. One of my besties was an SMU graduate and some of us paid her a visit during our early career years. Needless to say, I'm not very Southwest friendly due to my limited exposure to the area. Therefore I am somewhat at a loss as to what to wear. And this is for sure a frustrating first for me. I always know what to wear (pout). But a city girl fashionista at an advertising conference in cattle country; I'm stumped. I feel I need to embrace my surroundings though -- I mean when will I ever be back to Texas and have an opportunity to look the part? So my initial thinking is the obvious route of something cowboy inspired. I have boots, but they're such a duh. So maybe rancher, but I don't think chaps would be appropriate. The neighboring states turquoise jewelry direction feels eh, not me. But what about this head to hoof Louis Vuitton equestrian chic vibe? Complete with a plumed up-do like a fancy horsey. I’m kinda’ serious. Ok, fine. Any and all suggestions would be very welcome. (Vogue February 10)

Babar and Queen Celeste

One of my 2010 goals is to plan a Safari trip to Africa. While there I fully intend to feed a baby elephant and bring back a picture just like this. I love that little Babar is totally channeling André Leon Tally with his Louis Vuitton cape. And love even more that Queen Celeste, Kiera Knightley, paints an unexpected take on Safari. Another Spring trend, but not one I am sure I can embrace -- never been much for straw hats, camo and binoculars. Practical or not, I’d probably go for more of an earthy, femme bohemian meets wildlife kind of wardrobe. Well, at least for my picture. (Vogue 07)
